Cacteae

Etymology: Name in reference to that it is the tribe type of the family Cactaceae.
Origin: North of South America until the south of North America. The majority of the species is in Mexico or its near surroundings.

Plantas inicialmente globulares aunque con los años frecuentemente alcanzan portes semi columnares. También hay un par de géneros de formas extrañas como la Leuchtenbergia. Sus tamaños pueden variar desde diminutas hasta un par de metros. Floración diurna, frutos comestibles, en muchos casos carnosos aunque no siempre.
