Didiereaceae
Radlk. ex Drake 1896

Etymology: Botanical family of Didierea.
Place of Origin: Endemic to Madagascar, particularly in the south.

Botanical family of thorny shrubs, xerophytes, and small trees. They are closely related to cacti, particularly the Pereskioideae and Opuntioideae subfamilies, with which they apparently share common ancestors. The compatibility is so high that members of these families can be grafted onto cacti. They are native to the dry, thorny forests of southern and southwestern Madagascar.
