Kalanchoe
Adans 1763

Etymology: From Chinese (kalan chai), which means:

“a plant that falls and grows.”

Place of Origin: Africa, especially tropical regions.

Plants of highly diverse sizes, ranging from small herbaceous specimens to large ones reaching about 6-7 meters. They are perennial plants, although some species exhibit partial leaf loss (not complete) in winter. They feature very distinctive flowering stems in the form of umbels. Blooming occurs between late autumn and early spring.
Main Taxa
kalanchoe-beharensis-drake

Kalanchoe beharensis (Drake)

Well-known for the large size of its leaves, the entire plant is covered with a fine down that protects it and gives it a velvety appearance. It displays shades ranging from light green to dark brown and stores water in both its leaves and stems, making it highly drought-resistant. However, its structure is fragile, so it is advisable to avoid impacts or rough handling. It does not tolerate cold and can suffer damage below 0°C. It is easy to cultivate, slow-growing, and capable of reaching a considerable size.
