Stetsonia coryne
(Salm-Dyck)Britton & Rose 1920

Etymology: From the Greek (korunē) meaning club.
Place of Origin: Northwest Argentina mainly.

The sole representative of its genus, characterized by columnar stems that can reach considerable height, typically growing as a solitary specimen. It features well-defined ribs and long, robust spines arranged regularly along the areoles. The large, light-colored flowers typically bloom seasonally. It requires very well-drained soil; although adapted to arid environments, in cultivation it needs occasional watering to prevent root atrophy. It is highly sensitive to rot, so excess moisture must be avoided. It is an ornamental species of interest for cactus collections and succulent gardens.
