Etymology: Subfamily of plants similar to Asphodelus.
Place of Origin: Primarily in South Africa, and to a lesser extent in North Africa, the Mediterranean region, the Middle East, and some areas of Western Asia.

It primarily groups succulent or bulbous plants adapted to arid and Mediterranean climates. They feature fleshy leaves, short or bulbous stems, and flowers typically arranged in clusters.
