Salm. Hortus Dickensis 1834
Etymology:
that bears threads, referring to the loose fibers bordering the leaves.

**Central Mexican Plateau**
Acaule plant habit, lacking a stem, forming cespitose colonies composed of nearly spherical rosettes up to 60 cm in diameter. Its leaves are rigid, thick, and lance-shaped. They lack teeth, although they have hardened margins from which fibers detach, a trait that gives the species its name. It produces a floral spike between 2 and 3 meters in height, the upper half of which is covered with numerous small flowers.
