Foto:Jleon 2008-08-13 One of the areolar bristles. It is actually a thin, low-consistency spine with a more or less flat cross-section and, in some cases, a spiral shape. Despite their low consistency, they are sharp and can penetrate the skin. They measure around 0.6mm.


Solitary plants, although they may develop multiple heads if the growing center is damaged. Initially globular, but over time they become columnar, reaching up to about 3m in height. Very prominent and numerous ribs.
